Social media marketing uses social networking websites as a marketing tool and it is a form of internet marketing. The goal of SMM is to create content  so that users will share through their social network sites and this helps a company by increasing brand value and expand customer reach. One of the main components of SMM is social media optimization (SMO).

SMO is a strategy for drawing new and unique visitors to a website like search engine optimization (SEO). There are two ways to use social media optimization (SMO), By adding social media links to content, for example RSS feeds and By sharing buttons or promoting activity through social media for example, updating statuses or tweets, or blog posts. SMM helps a company by getting direct feedback from while making the company look like more attractive.

Social media offers customers the opportunity to ask questions or voice complaints and feel they are being listened. This is the interactive part of social media marketing This particular part of Social Media Marketing (SMM) is called social customer relationship management  (social CRM).  Twitter, Facebook, Myspace, LinkedIn, and YouTube and etc. are the social networking websites.

So SMM became more common with the increased popularity of these sites. In response, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) which is promote the consumer protection in U.S. Government has updated its rules to include SMM. The online comments will be treated legally as endorsements, when a business or its advertising agency provides a blogger with free products or other incentives to generate positive buzz for a product

Both the blogger and the company will be taken responsible for ensuring that the motivations are clearly and conspicuously revealed, and that the blogger’s posts contain no misleading or unverified statements and otherwise complies with the FTC’s rules about unfair or deceptive advertising.

The Do’s of Social Media Marketing:

  • Know the customers. Social media pages must be customized to customer base, not based on your own personal. personal details are not needed to the customers and they do not care your personal. They care about the content which customers relate to. For Example, If you work at a bakery, post recipes and tips and tricks of the business like sales. Follow the 80/20 rule. It means, 80% or more should be related to the content, while 20% or less can be particularly about your business, products or services.
  • Be active not overactive: Be active on social media, but don’t frequently post  that you overwhelm or annoy the people. This leads to two problems. Fist one is, too much information can cause to stop following your posts by followers, and second one is, your posts can leave within their newsfeeds and they may not see the content even the content is really valuable to them
  • Measure and Monitor the results: Publish The different  posts on the same topic and pay attention to the analytics. Find out what your followers are mostly connects in your page. and post the that related content.
  • Understand which social media platform(s) are best for business: everyone use Facebook today but that’s not enough to suit for all the businesses. social media is not one size fits all. If you want to improve your SEO, then Google+ or YouTube might be your best choice. If you want to create traffic to the site or improve customer engagement, then Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest may be suitable for the business in today’s Social Media
  • Maintain one voice. Social media is great advantages for sharing, The content should be clear and consistent throughout all the channels: website, public, social media, etc. so that the opportunities for sharing is more.
  • Follow a checklist: Making a generalized checklist for your content saves you from mistakes of small slips as well big blunders. Checklists are very important before creating and publishing on social media sites. Checklists are great for many facets of life, including social media. Sure, it sounds easy: Just log onto Twitter or Facebook, create a post and click share, yes? Unfortunately, it’s not quite that simple. Make a checklist to ensure that your information will be clear and easily understood, and check for any grammatical or language errors, and Make sure all of your links are valid. These are just a few examples of things to pay attention to the checklists can save you time and trouble
  • Be original.Take a chance and be creative with your posts. Show your personality. Help people see what makes you different from the competition. When your main goal is to bring in customers, you have to stand out and make people remember you!
  • Provide great customer service. Great customer service can increase a company value. If customers are happy to your services, they will establish a loyalty to your brand. Not only customers loyal to you, but also they will be the best brand ambassadors by word-of-mouth advertising. That’s the best public support you can ask for
  • Have a personality. Dull, boring posts lead to negative results. you have a excitement about your company and the products and the services so that you can create excitement to your customers. if you are not excited and don’t love what you stand for, your clients also not.

 The Don’ts of Social Media Marketing

  • Don’t Ignore your audience. If anyone posts a question or complaint on your profile, answer it as soon as possible and don’t delete or neglect the content unless outrageously offensive. This reveals your current and potential customers that your brand is both responsive, respectful, and transparent. If the comment is negative, you have an opportunity to show how you answer an unhappy customer. Often, online complainers just want to be heard. If you can show that you’re listening, and you care, that goes a long way toward demonstrating your customer service priorities.
  • Don’t Spam your audience: Don’t spam your audience by posting unnecessary or same information again and again. If you are constantly overwhelming your followers by posting same information repeatedly several times a day, they are very likely to hit the ‘unfollow’ button, very soon.  So make sure your posts don’t revolve around the same topic, same information and meaningless subjects.
